Garden Mirror

I have a Pinterest copy to share today.
The garden phrase on a mirror
seemed like a dandy home decor sign.
Plus it makes me feel so lovely,
since my gardens are a huge part of my life!

I used adhesive vinyl that was cut on
my Cricut machine.  Notice the two different
letter fonts & adorable rose decal.
The mirror was left over from a project
where I just needed the frame.
The wood is actually chippy siding off
a house a friend tore down.
It's slightly imperfect, but good practice with
my stash of reclaimed wood.

Here are a few spring pictures of my garden:

Now that summer has officially arrived,
I will be moving my pansy containers to a
slightly shady location & trimming some back.

I'll be moving Celosia pots onto my south facing deck
which will take the heat well, along with my Mandevilla.

If you love gardening, keep checking my blog for some
junky garden inspiration!

DADDY VAN'S POLISH

Summer is here & it's time for some hardcore junkin'.
I've been having good luck at garage sales & thrifting.
Recently at a flea market, I scored this old Army Chest:
$15

It's complete with nicely worn edges, authentic markings,
tattered rope handles & in very good shape!

The only flaw is a little white paint splatter
on the front.

I also picked up this super cute half table:
$12

It gave me a chance to try out the Daddy Van's
natural furniture polish from my mom.

The left shows the new glow, and the right half
is the dull worn lifeless wood:

I am LOVING this polish!

Next up...
I'll never pass up an old typewriter at the right price!

This one was a STEAL!
$7

Just look at those fabulous keys!

These keys are invaluable to jewelry makers.

The smooth lines and retro pull handles
of this old desk dresser stole my heart!
As with many purchases...
I want to keep it.
My husband won't allow that.
Isn't it dreamy though???

I took Daddy Van's to this as well:

Can you see the shine???

I'm going to have to use my amateur
wood crafting skills to replace that missing
board on the inside bottom.
Oh, you almost didn't notice?
Good!

Happy thrifting this weekend!

DRAGONFLIES

A friend let me pick her junk pile a while back.
I took a fair amount of treasures home,
including two old radiator fans.

It turned out, when paired with old
table leg spindles, they made cute garden dragonflies!

My metal fan wings are a variation from
the Pinterest post using ceiling fan blades!
I will be watching for ceiling
fans at garage sales this summer.
Which one do you like better:
The Pinterest bug or my more rustic version?

Reclaimed Wood

Besides making rustic wooden planters,
I've tried my hand at a cupboard.

Using some chippy reclaimed bead board,
I covered a cheap dumpster rescued cabinet.

As you can see, the corners are rough cut.
That seems to match the chippy old wood style.

There was only one shelf inside,
so I cut the door in half to get another one!
It fit just right.

Glistening Tea

My aunt gave me an old silver tea set.
She no longer wanted it & some parts were broke.
So I chose to do a Pinterest copy
& created a lovely garden sun catcher.

How did I do it?
I drilled two holes in a small scrap piece of wood.
Then fed some thick wire thru it,
and stuffed it in the pot.
Feeding that long wire end out the spout was
a bit of a challenge.

But then I did wire loops & hung some
scrapbooking (Prima brand) supply gems on the wire.
I did small to large gems to give the illusion of liquid
pouring out.  It looks really pretty in the sun.
If you had vintage glass chandelier gems,
that would give you the ultimate sparkle.

Watch for old tea service sets at garage sales!

Meyercord Decals

While scraping paint off my dad's very special
old wooden chair, a retro ship image became apparent.
It was a neat decal of some sort on the wider
portion of the chair back.
I've since deleted the photographs from my
computer and camera.  That was when I
had convinced myself that I would NEVER
start a blog and need them. Oops.

The search for this decal has taught me some
valuable things & I'd like to share.

Meyercord Decals can be readily found on Ebay!
There are many images, from baby theme to western.

They get the most amazing crackle with age!
You'll see the bears on old cribs a lot of times.

I adore this bundle of flower on a large old jar.
It's fun to imagine who took time to add
a decal to this old jar back in the day.

They'll cost around $1-$15 on Ebay,
but were originally around $.25-$.59!

Check out this old catalog page
of their decals from 1952: Smithstonian

Here is link to an old shop display of the
items available back in 1940: Smithstonian

This link is to a fun color display
of the many images: Pinterest

On this blog, a gal added some
old decals to jars: Bargain Hunting Treasures

Next time your have a simple vintage find
or even a modern project...
jazz it up with some Meyercord decals!
