Not For Sale!

I love selling my thrift & garage sale finds, but once in a while I just can't part with something.  A prime example is this beveled mirror that has been separated from it's family.  It appeared to be the side of a three part mirror from some fabulous old piece of furniture.

I used a hand saw (not jig) and power sander to achieve an equal scallop that I simply "eyeballed" on with a Sharpie!  Old English furniture stain gave the fresh cut wood a weathered look.  The wood was very hard.  I decided to keep the finish "as is" since it kind of appeals to me & it's so unevenly worn.

 Can you guess what I paid for it?

You gotta love garage sales!

 

The mirror was falling out & I had to add cardboard layers between it & the thin wood backing to ensure it wouldn't shift & slide.  Lots of extra screw were added because the wood was so hard, staples wouldn't even penetrate!

Top Shelf

A new watering can was added to my small collection last month.  It called my name & for $22 I couldn't resist.  The significant spout made this one stand out.  It seemed like a good deal.

Here is a look at the top shelf of my massive book shelf daddy made (long ago).  It was fun incorporating some random numbers and the color red!

 

I like this set up a lot better than the mish-mash I had before.  The color repetition seems to tie it all together.  How cute is my new enamelware tea pot for a few bucks at a garage sale?

 

 

 

 

I paid more for the print of our family portrait in sepia.  It was so worth it to know it'd always go with the surroundings! 

 

The new can stands proudly in the back sporting some faux geraniums.  I was thrilled to find out the large can actually fit on top of the bookshelf! 

 

Thanks to my friend's influence, I know love numbers & letters for no apparent reason!  Random is in!  So far no one has asked what they stand for.

I found an old softball scoreboard in the woods all folded in half with a few bullet holes.  However, I am in love with it and think it deserved to be displayed & appreciated.  Tell me... is it so awesome?

It's pretty beat up, but the color is still relatively good.  I decided the best place for it was a north wall, away from hot bleaching sun.  The barn by our driveway was the ideal place to offer a peak of this old sign to folks driving away.  By the way, this was a bear cat to hang by myself!  (Thanks for nothing, hubby.)

Window Art

I hoard windows.  The shed was pleasantly stocked, then an offer of free ones came up.   Now the little shed is officially BUSTING with windows.  That will have to be what kind of crafts I sell this winter!  I've started a window board on Pintrest to help inspire me.  Take a peak for ideas, if this interests you.

Long ago, I painted flowers on one for my mother-in-law and a horse on one for her relative.  Then there is my Halloween theme creation at my paper craft blog: spooky

A person can do chalk paint, cork, chicken wire, stencils,  or add vinyl.  Multiple panes are the most fun, in my opinion.  It also seems that smaller windows are more charming.  A big window will need a BIG space in your home.  They get a bit heavy to hang.  I always like the look of them leaning against a wall on a dress or buffet. They can also be set in a scene on the floor of your porch by the door.

 Here is the most recent one I've done.  It was a masculine design.  I'm excited that is sold from my craft booth in only two days!  woo hoo, someone likes my creations!!!

 



The glass in the middle section is reflecting my deck boards.  This was so hard to photograph! 

 

I used brown, red & white adhesive vinyl cut on my Cricut machine.  These images are from the Indie Arts cartridge.  Aren't they rad?

The chicken wire was added to a pane that had a board in it.  The bottom glass pane was covered with corregated cardboard. The wood frame was distressed with small amounts of paint streaks and some edge sanding.

Sweet Tiny Bells

Oh baby, these are so cute.
 I've never seen such tiny bells with the most precious dainty ring in the world!

 

They have some markings on them, which adds charm.

Recently I spotted just one bell for $6.50 in an antique store.

Mail Organizer

This cute rusty tray was priced right. It is now turned into a one-of-a-kind item. I chose to stuff a few old bed springs in it & make it a handy mail organizer!  It might be a little rusty, but the tray has a soft felt bottom. 

 

The jar could hold stamps, address labels, paper clips, post its & more.  My favorite use, of course, is to fill it them with candy!  The fall M&M's are so pretty.

 

 

It sure beats that plastic office stuff for the home office.  Tell me what you think!

ALPHA & OMEGA

I found a sturdy coffee table or $10 at a garage sale & decided to give it a transformation.  My "before" photo got lost when my computer crashed, but I do have some "along the way" pics.  The top had NO finish left on it and was bone dry plus stained.  I painted it brown, distressed it, then started my inspirational phrase painting!  The legs were green & got a LOT of distressing to make the table look older than it is.

I wrote the whole Bible verse underneath the table.  Revelations 1:8  I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, "who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty"

My efforts here were to attempt to make the words seem like a vintage product label.  At the very least, I didn't what to go straight across and be boring!  The trick was to use a garbage can lid as the guide for my half circle!  Creativity knows no limits in my garage! 

The letters are adhesive vinyl cut on the Cricut machine using my favorite font Old West cartridge.  It's always a risk picking the size and keeping things straight. The more you experiment, the easier it gets and I'm on a role this summer!  These letters were traced around & then painted on with acrylics.  A furniture polish gave the top a little shine, since my sanding made it dull.
