BED SPRINGS

I found a creative use for old rusty bed springs.  If you team them up with rustic barn wood, you can't go wrong.  A little burlap never hurts either!

This project cost me a total of $4, half for candles & half for the tiny hardware that holds the wires down.  I'll have to keep this prototype because the nails that I pounded up through the bottom of the board to poke the candles down onto are a little short.  I plan to make more of these & hopefully (crossing fingers) sell them at a local craft show.  What would YOU pay for a center piece like this???

Ditch Digger

You've all heard the term "dumpster diver".  I'd consider myself more of a "ditch digger".

We own property with an old rusty garbage heap.  I estimate it to be about 50 years old.  I figure in that amount of time, all the germs have dissipated.  At least that's how I convince myself that it's not gross.

Would YOU ever dig for treasure?  Have you?  Before you say "no" and "never", consider my finds!

Yes, even the cart!

Giant tea cup (he he he)?  Or vintage batter bowl?

Textured Root Beer Bottle!

The wire fencing spool, that you'll novice at the base of the cart, provided me with perfect wire flower shapes!  Here is what I did:

It's a flower wreath, of sorts.  Junkers can scavenge & create something for practically nothing!

Funny Little Man

I found a new door stopper.  He's a heavy paper weight, vintage tire man figurine.  At first, I considered selling him.  But he's wore on me, and now I think he'll join our household.  Proud little guy.

Can you believe that someone threw this little guy in a garbage heap in a field? ......... Don't answer that.

Owl Trivets

I snatched up a whole family of owl trivets from the thrift store a while back.   Yes...a family.  Complete with momma owl & 4 little owlets.  It took some pondering to dream up a use for these Halloween theme cuties.  Here is my decorative use:

A small portion of wire secured them to a stack of old picnic baskets.  I skipped the middle one, because it's Grandma Eva's green basket and a bit delicate.  I'd hate to wreck the only one with sentimental value!

Aren't they cute?  I've been seeing these on Etsy & Ebay, so they are fairly easy to track down.  I paid $1 for mama & 50 cents a piece for the babes.

HOUNDSTOOTH

HOUNDSTOOTH.  I LOVE IT.

IT IS TRADITIONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE COUNTRY OF SCOTLAND & TYPICALLY MADE OF WOOL.

WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY OFFICIALLY LISTED THE WORD IN 1936.

I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT IT IS AN ALABAMA MASCOT THANKS TO A FAMOUS FOOTBALL COACH THAT WORE A PATTERNED FEDORA.

ONE THING I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL NOW, IS THAT CAMEROS EVEN USED IT ON UPHOLSTERY & MODERN ENTHUSIASTS CAN PURCHASE SIMILAR KITS.

EVERY 20-30 YEARS, HOUDSTOOTH RECLAIMS POPULARITY.  I KIND OF VIEW IT AS IMMORTAL.

I WEAR IT.
I EVEN ENCOURAGED MY SON TO COVER HIS GUITAR IN IT.

THERE IS EVEN A HOUNDSTOOTH HUT STORE!

IF YOU LOVE HOUNDSTOOTH, MAYBE YOU'LL LIKE MY HALLOWEEN JUNKY CRAFT:

I BOUGHT SOME CHEAP WOODEN LETTERS AND PAINTED THEM ORANGE.  THEN I CUT STRIPS OF PATTERNED PAPER & GLUED IT TO THE EDGES.  THIS REALLY MADE THE LETTERS STAND OUT.  THEN, USING Unity Stamps AND STAZON INK, I STAMPED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SPOOKY IMAGES SCATTERED ACROSS EACH LETTER.  THE BEST PART WAS USING SOME RESCUED BARN WOOD FOR THE SIGN!

SINCE IT HANGS ABOVE MY TOILET, MAYBE IT SHOULD HAVE SAID "POO".  HA HA HA!  SORRY, JUST HAD TO SAY THAT.

WHERE IS THE HOUNDSTOOTH, YOU ASK?

THANKS FOR LOOKING, I HOPE THIS IS A LITTLE TOUCH OF JUNKY HALLOWEEN INSPIRATION FOR YOU!
